As far as I can tell, this bad boy is the last of the Witcher books that I hadn’t read and I’m now up-to-date with the series. That’s good news for me because it means I can now start watching the lets plays of the games that I have on my YouTube list.

I’ve enjoyed all of the Witcher books to varying amounts, but I did feel as though this was one of the better ones. There’s a lot of fun stuff happening, from corrupt town officials to someone stealing Geralt’s witcher swords. When Dandelion suggested that he get another pair, the Witcher pointed to the bard’s lute and said, “If someone took your lute, would you just go and get another one?”

We’re at an interesting point in the series here at which it feels as though a new norm has been established, which I find quite interesting. We start the series with one status quo and by this point we have another, and it kind of feels like it’s going to be sticking to this new formula for a little while. And shoot, I’m fine with that.

So what else is there to say? I mean, if you’ve stuck with the Witcher series this far then you’re not going to want to stop now, and now I’m looking forward to more books coming out. At the same time, I’m kind of hoping that he’ll bring out some more short story collections, because I think those are where he’s really at his best.

The Witcher books have continued to appeal to me because of the moral ambiguity which they deal in and the way in which they force the reader to think about how they themselves would react to any given situation. There was less of that to be seen here, but that was okay because the actual storyline itself was, dare I say it, more exciting.

So overall, I would of course recommend it if you’ve made it this far in the series. Say hi to Geralt for me.
