Title: The Hellbound Heart
Author: Clive Barker

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting from this book, but I certainly wasn’t expecting this. Barker’s writing style reminded me of Henry James, and I was expecting him to be more like Stephen King. I guess that’s my own fault for not picking up a Clive Barker book before now.
This book is also the inspiration behind Hellraiser, which I’ve never seen. I guess I had my own preconceived notions of what that movie was about, and I guess those preconceived notions were wrong. That meant that I was in for a delightful surprise, because this book is a creepy little read that has vibes of classic literature.
I enjoyed it, and I’ll read more of Barker’s work in the future. I guess I’ll start with Imajica, because there was an excerpt of it in the back of the book.
