This book is pretty interesting, but not necessarily a work of art – it’s an interesting story and it’s told in a readable way, but it still feels a little bit like a gimmick, something that was released around the time of the Star Wars prequel movies to try to cash in on the brand.
Still, Wolverton did a pretty good job, and his source material is decent – he tells the story of what happens with a young Obi-Wan, who desperately wants to become a Jedi. Unfortunately, Qui-Gon Jinn doesn’t want to take him on as a Padawan apprentice. Now, as this is set before the first of the prequel movies, we know that somehow, he manages to convince the Jedi Master to take him on. But how?
That’s what this story tells, and it’s an interesting enough read even if you can’t call it literature. Worth it for Star Wars fans.
