Title: The Jedi Doth Return

Author: Ian Doescher

Type: Fiction

Page Count: 170

Rating: 3.5/5

This book is a lot of fun, a Shakespearian take on the third and final movie in the original Star Wars trilogy. Return of the Jedi has always been my favourite in the series, although I can’t say why. Most people prefer The Empire Strikes Back.

Part of the reason why I enjoyed it so much was that I was able to compare many of the lines from the film to the Shakespearean equivalents. I also quite liked the way that some of the characters were able to speak in asides to the audience to reveal angles that the original films couldn’t consider. Plus Darth Vader had a line about how Luke’s lightsabre was green, just like his naivety about whether he could turn his father back to the light side.

I enjoyed it, and it’s a perfect read for anyone who enjoys both Star Wars and Shakespeare.
