Title: Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit

Author: Jeanette Winterson

Type: Fiction/Non-Fiction

Page Count: 176

Rating: 4/5

This is another one of those books where it’s hard to say whether it’s fiction or non-fiction, and indeed Winterson herself says that it’s a little bit of both in the introduction. She also had some interesting stuff to say about the original publisher, who she eventually parted ways with after they were acquired by Rupert Murdoch.

For me, it reminded me quite a bit of my childhood, mainly because of its depiction of religion. When I was a kid, religion was an important part of life, if only because I went to a Catholic school and so I was kind of forced down my throat. There was other stuff that was less relatable of course, but the way in which it was written kept me reading until the end, so there’s that. I enjoyed it and would both recommend it and read some more of Winterston’s stuff. Hurray!
