Joseph Conrad - Heart of Darkness

Joseph Conrad – Heart of Darkness

I’ve read two of Conrad’s novels now (Heart of Darkness and The Secret Agent), and I just can’t find his style enjoyable – he’s too dry, and I always feel as though he could accomplish his mission with half the words that he uses. Heart of Darkness is short, but it’s not short enough, and only worth reading for the sake of reading it.

Still, it is the novella that inspired Apocalypse Now, and it does have some literary merit – it’s just not for me, and for that I must apologise.
