First off, let me preface this review by explaining that Bushra is only fifteen-years-old, and The Sender is the first book that she’s released. So yes, there were occasional typos and spelling mistakes, and perhaps the formatting could’ve been a little better, but I’ve read far worse from authors who are twice Bushra’s age.
Besides, it’s not a surprise to see mistakes – without a team of professional editors behind you, it’s difficult to release a book without any mistakes, and Bushra self-published. At the moment, she displays a hell of a lot of confidence, ability and dedication to writing, more so than some of my fellow students when I was a creative writing undergraduate back in the day.
The story-line shows a lot of thought, and I think it’d be particularly easy to relate to the characters if you were a teenage girl yourself – in fact, being a teenager, Bushra is able to write young adult fiction with the perspective of a young adult, a rare enough gift that gives her an extra edge if you’re in to reading up-and-coming authors. You never know, you might even be surprised!
