Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Perhaps they do, but that’s not the point of this review – to find that out, and to truly understand the poignancy behind the title, you’ll have to read the book. Rest assured, though, that it comes highly recommended from me – as a science fiction writer, Dick is up there with Isaac Asimov.

If you’ve ever seen Blade Runner then you know roughly what to expect – Ridley Scott’s classic film is loosely based on the book, although he added a few flourishes of his own. I preferred the novel, and most people who’ve seen both will agree with me, but that’s not a fault of the film – Dick’s writing is just too engaging, and you develop a real sympathy for the novel’s protagonist.

Rick Deckard, a bounty hunter who earns his keep by destroying escaped androids, is that protagonist, and it’s easy to relate to his dystopian struggle to find meaning in his life. There are a few twists to look forward to as well, but I won’t spoil them for you before you read it.
