Ariel is highly regarded by Plath fans, and I can see why – her poetry is vivid and evocative, and I particularly like the way in which her language is simultaneously simple and powerful. She was always a woman who knew what she was doing with words, and I always thought of her as a much better writer than Ted Hughes, her husband. If you’ve never read any of Sylvia Plath’s poetry before then this is the place to start.
