Isaac Asimov – The End of Eternity

Wow – I can’t even begin to explain how many twists and turns there are in this book, but it’s fascinating because it keeps you interested right up until the end, and some similar novels can leave you too muddled and confused to continue. Put simply, The End of Eternity is an epic love story set in the future, in which an exclusive organisation travels forwards and backwards through time to alter time’s cause-and-effect relationship.

Technician Andrew Harlan is used to calculating the MNC, the minimum necessary change – it could be that the loss of a dozen lives now will prevent all-out war in the future. But what happens when you fall in love, and you have to choose between what’s best for your lover and what’s best for the rest of humanity? That’s what Asimov explores, with an ability to think things through that’s rarely matched.

You see, I’ve made it sound complicated, and it is – nevertheless, Asimov’s smooth writing makes it a breeze to read.
