Agatha Christie – The Regatta Mystery and Other Stories
The Regatta Mystery and Other Stories is a classic collection of Christie’s work from way back in 1939, at a time when, in my opinion, she was at her best. As an added bonus, the stories focus on Parker Pyne, Miss Marple and the legendary Hercule Poirot. If you’re looking for a solid collection of her work that features some of her best-known characters. you can’t do much better.
It’s interesting that ‘How Does Your Garden Grow?‘ features two of Christie’s hallmarks – the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, and a story-line that revolves around a nursery rhyme. It stands out beside Pocket Full of Rye, And Then There Were None and many of her other works which use a rhyme as a plot device. Somehow, it’s sinister.
Really, it’s a pretty good collection of her work, but there are plenty of other short story collections that accomplish the same goal. Either way, her longer fiction comes more highly recommended because it’s easier for the author to grab your attention and cause a feeling of suspense. And we all know that there’s no-one better author at creating suspense than Christie.
