I started out by reading this in French and English at the same time, but then my relationship ended and improving my French became kind of painful, so I finished it off in English. Honestly, the French version was easier to understand, but then it was a more modern translation.

It’s a classic tale of a young man who takes out a loan from a Jew called Shylock on the condition that if he can’t pay back the money, he’ll pay with a pound of his flesh instead. Then something goes wrong, he loses his ships… and you’ll have to read/see the play for more info.
