Okay, I’ll admit it - I wasn’t actually tagged to do this one. But when I saw that Bookhi had done it, I couldn’t help myself - I tagged myself in the comments! Check out Bookhi’s original post over here.
The idea here is that there are a series of questions that you have to answer, and when you’ve answered them all you can tag three bloggers to continue the chain - read on to check out the questions and to see who we tagged to follow in our footsteps.
What are your top three book pet hates?
- Spelling mistakes and grammar fails
- When the font is too small
- Huge books that are hard to hold properly
Describe your perfect reading spot.
I like to read on public transport, but I don’t like there to be too many people around me - because of that, I guess I’d go for an empty train carriage! I also enjoy reading in the bath, and so perhaps a decent bubble bath with space to stretch out - not candlelit though, in case the book caught on fire!
Tell us three book confessions.
- Sometimes I choose which book to read next based on how it’ll make me look to other people
- I have a huge (700+ books) list of the books that I want to read next
- I only read paperbacks, and I always keep my books after reading them as part of my humongous library
When was the last time you cried during a book?
I’ll be honest, I don’t often cry during a book - saying that, I don’t really cry during films, either. That said, one time in particular sticks out - about ten years ago, at the end of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy, I was in tears for hours on end.
How many books are on your bedside table?
There aren’t any books on my bedside table because that’s not where I keep them - however, there are two in my work bag (which is where I keep the book I’m currently reading and the one that I’m going to read next), and there are 47 on my ‘to be read’ pile.
What is your favourite snack while you’re reading?
I don’t really snack while I’m reading, but I am partial to both nachos and Cadbury Fudge bars, so I guess I’d pick one of those. I also love fizzy laces, and they’re probably the least messy of the three - I wouldn’t want to end up with sticky pages!
Name three books you would recommend to everyone.
- Philip Pullman - Northern Lights
- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - The Valley of Fear
- Terry Pratchett - Feet of Clay
Show us a picture of your favourite bookshelf on your bookcase.
I don’t really have a favourite bookshelf, but I guess I’d go for this one just because Charles Bukowski and William Burroughs make a fearsome combination. Let’s just ignore Dan Brown for a minute…
Write how much books mean to you in just three words.
Books are everything.
What is your biggest reading secret?
I’m not sure if there is one, but I can tell you something that not many people know - I’m fairly OCD, and so I have a set way of deciding when to buy new books. Every time I go somewhere that has a bookshop, I have to buy a book - I can buy it online at a later date, or I can buy it there and then. I can also get ahead of myself (by buying multiple books) or behind (by not buying a book and needing to get one). At the moment, I need to buy -30 books to break even, because I’ve been buying tons at low prices from charity shops!
So there you have it - here’s hoping I passed the book blogger test! Now, I need to nominate three people to continue the chain, so I tag Hannah from The Book Tower, Penny from Lillies and Love and Jane from Is That You Darling. Keep your eyes peeled on their blogs to see if they take the test!
Until next time, thanks a lot for reading and don’t forget to follow SocialBookshelves.com on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and Instagram for further updates. I’ll see you soon!
